What is CBD?

CBD is short for cannabidiol – a cannabinoid found in hemp and marijuana

CBD is non-psychoactive – it won’t give you a traditional high like its cousin, THC, found at greater levels in marijuana

CBD’s potential effects include: alertness (small doses), sedateness, anti-inflammation, anti-anxiety, antioxidant, anti-nausea as well as a host of other benefits

Can you get high from CBD?

No, not in the traditional sense

CBD is considered non-psychoactive

CBD does impact how you feel and can act as an anti-inflammatory, anti-nausea, or anti-anxiety agent

CBD can have a relaxing effect: users may feel a change in mood

What is the difference between CBD derived from hemp and CBD derived from marijuana?

CBD is present in both hemp and marijuana – and is chemically identical

Hemp can legally contain 0.3% THC or less, which means that CBD derived from hemp will functionally have zero THC (often this number is zero)

CBD products derived from marijuana and sold in state-controlled dispensaries (where legal) can have significantly more THC in addition to CBD.

All CBD used in Docklight Brands’ products is derived from hemp and has 0% THC

Is CBD the same as hemp oil?

Sometimes, but not always

Hemp extract is derived from hemp plants and contains multiple cannabinoids, including CBD, as well as terpenes (natural compounds responsible for the scent of cannabis plants and their botanical relatives*)

There is also a product called “hemp seed oil” which is a highly nutritious food product made from pressing hemp seeds, and has zero CBD

Docklight products use Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract meaning that our CBD extract contains many of the cannabinoids the hemp plant provides, but no THC

*Fun bonus fact – terpenes are also found in hops, which give beer its signature smell.  Next time you crack open an IPA, inhale the scent and enjoy those terpenes.

What are the effects of CBD?

The effects of CBD are still being studied

Sedating and combating insomnia – in higher doses

Reduces pain

Reduces anxiety and depression

Stops nausea and vomiting

And many others!

Is CBD safe?

Research has shown that CBD is safe, even in high doses of up to 600mg per day

There have been no reports of fatal overdose attributed to CBD

Several Docklight products have as little as 5mg of CBD in them, allowing you to carefully dial in your dosage

How long does it take to feel the effects?

This largely depends on how you took your CBD, how much you took, and how the CBD was made

Typically, the fastest way to feel the impact is smoking or vaping CBD – 3-5 minutes

The next fastest is from a sublingual tincture (placed under tongue and allowed to absorb there) – 15-60 minutes

The slowest, but longest lasting effect, is from eating or drinking CBD – up to 90 minutes

Docklight makes products in all three categories: vape, tincture, and beverages and edibles

Many CBD products contain trace amounts of THC

Proceed with caution if you get drug tested regularly

Is CBD Legal?

After the 2018 Farm Bill passed in Dec 2018, CBD is no longer federally illegal

On the state level it is a different story

Some states have passed laws that are more liberal than the federal laws

In some states the laws have not changed, and CBD products are discouraged or even forbidden

We encourage you to do the research for your state

100% of the CBD found in Docklight products is from 2018 Farm Bill approved sources, and is federally legal
